The UK and Nicaraguan volunteers and members of the Aguirre community have begun constructing the steps that link the Masaya Volcano National Park with the viewpoint, which has the same name. This can be found 5km away from the Masaya Volcano’s crater.

United to achieve one objective, while some volunteers were cutting wood, others were hammering in vertical posts to a depth of 30cm and the rest were levelling the earth so the steps remained at the same height. The problem was clear; the climb was quite steep and around 250m long. It was a huge task because of its steepness, it was exhausting and at the same time dangerous because the soil was quite loose. Now, this problem has disappeared thanks to the construction of graduated steps, a new and practical option for tourists.

This very pleasing view is what awaits you after such a tiring walk.

The view of the Masaya Volcano

One of the obvious necessities of the viewpoint was the eco-latrines, given that it is quite a distance away from the park. This is one of the projects that have been finished. These are two clear examples of teamwork, good organisation and, above all, with the willingness of the volunteers, ambitious objectives can be achieved.
