Nicaraguan volunteers rise early to get to the Alcaldia de Vara or to where the bus can pick them up.
Some of the volunteers don’t have breakfast, and once they arrive buy bread and a drink from one of the shops in La Sabanita. This is how the day begins. Some of them laugh, greet one another and crack a few jokes; others apply sun cream and insect repellent to protect them from the environmental conditions in the work place.
They help one another to move the materials they will need for building the vegetable patches. Heat, sweat and long walks are no obstacle to the work being done amid jokes and laughter.
Once they’re where they need to be, work begins: some paint, some cut tyres, others, who might be stronger, move soil; they clean the tyres and give help where it is needed.
Despite the fact that group one has had its differences, they remain a close team, of hard workers and jokers, and this has been fundamental for the motivation of the volunteers.
Communication in this group has been a success, and this can be seen in the work that has been done. At lunch time, no matter how far away from one another they are working, they get together to eat and share food, going off to get drinks, rest, and enjoy a little relaxation, Nicaraguans and Brits alike.
Then they get ready to finish the morning’s work and plan for the following day.
When the day ends, the volunteers walk back to the bus, exhausted from another day’s hard work. For some, climbing the steep hill is a daily challenge; for others, getting to the bus knowing that they’re going home and that another day has ended successfully, is a great satisfaction, since they have helped yet another family to improve their standard of living.

El diario hacer de las y los voluntarios.
Desde muy temprano las y los voluntarios nicaragüenses se levantan para trasladarse desde sus casas a la Alcaldía de Vara o bien en algún punto donde pasa el bus recogiéndolos.
Algunos de los voluntarios no desayunan y cuando llegan compran algún pan y un fresco en alguna de las ventas de La Sabanita, así empiezan su gran día, algunos ríen, se saludan y hacen uno que otro chistes, otros se aplican bloqueador y hasta repelente, para protegerse según ellos y ellas de las condiciones ambientales donde trabajamos.
Así mismo se ayudan entre sí para poder trasladar los materiales con los que realizan los huertos, el calor, el sudor y las largas caminatas no son un obstáculo para que estos chicos realicen su trabajo entre bromas y risas.
Ya estando en el lugar de trabajo se disponen en desempeñar alguna labor, algunos pintan, algunos cortan llantas, otros y otras son más fuertes y acarrean tierra, lavan llantas y se ayudan en lo que se necesite.
El grupo 1 sin duda alguna a pesar de que puedan llegar a tener diferencias ellos y ellas siempre son unidos, trabajadores y bromistas lo ultimo nunca falta y esto ha sido un pilar fundamental para que las y los voluntarios se sientan motivados y entusiasmados.
La buena comunicación de este grupo ha sido un éxito y esto puede verse en el cumplimiento de su trabajo y a la hora del almuerzo no importa la distancia en que se encuentren siempre ponen algún punto para comer todos juntos y compartir sus almuerzos con los demás, recolectar para el refresco, descansar y disfrutar juntos de este momento de relajación tanto de Nicaragüenses y Británicas.
Luego se disponen a terminar el trabajo de la mañana y planear que harán el día siguiente.
Al finalizar el día los voluntarios caminan de regreso al bus, ya agotados por otro día cansado de trabajo, para algunos una subida empinada es una meta diaria de cumplir, para otros llegar al bus, saber que ya van a casa y que culmina otro día con éxito, es una satisfacción increíble, ya que han ayudado a otra familia a mejorar sus condiciones de vida.
