Pre-departure training is a compulsory part of the ICS programme. It allows you to meet with your team for the first time and offers you all the information you need to get ready for your placement and ensure you have a productive and positive experience overseas.
The two-day the training happens 4-5 weeks before your departure day, normally over a weekend and it has been designed to cover a wide range of topics relating to volunteering overseas and International Development. We usually offer two different weekends of training that you could attend, but you must be able to attend one of these. Some of the sessions included in the pre-departure training include:
- Poverty, inequality and development.
- Culture and being culturally sensitive.
- Conflict management.
- Health and safety.
